Pahari&Bihari wedding in Himachal Pradesh

It was late night and I was sitting in bus, wondering, which one of fast passing dark corner is mine stop. In nights, hilly roads are usually colder and foggy here. I watch from window how smoke, from tea and cigarettes rising up. Few hours later bus reached Palampur and I saw Shilpica – the bride. It was wedding as I love – intimate, overloaded with traditions, and slightly crazy. We climbed mountains in wedding outfit, danced in the forest, kissed under the rain.

Beautiful Sikh wedding in Delhi

Once upon a time, on a bright sunny morning, I got a nice love story in my mail box. Aditya and Mansi wrote a three pages later with bunch of photos. Oh yes, and they requested for wedding photographer. Not just someone, but someone who can tell their eight years long “pyar ki kahani” and those long years what gone beyond distance and religion, finally got to be crowned by beautiful wedding day. I got to know Mansi just a day before wedding, at her house in South Delhi, where i reached at late evening. It was charming cosy flat with huge Ganesha statue in hall, and tasteful paintings all over the wall. Mansi was wearing heavy kajal, “she looks soo kashmiri”, i thought. Late her mom said what they are half kashmiri brahmins and half kumaoni.

Aditya lived just across the road, and i met his family at same night. There panjabi family celebrated. I got to know all units and uncles before they let me happily despair into my room.

Next day had been divided on two colors. Pink light appeared in gurudvara, and made pics so sweet and soft, while at cocktail party i got splashing green with rose petals all around. Bright sunshine made it’s work, and we have got most beautiful set I ever shot before.

Honeymoon couple shoot in GOA

…Set under a tree in Goa with wooden crates, a ‘LOVE’ sign, dreamcatchers, a sitar and a hammock – this shoot has a distinctly boho vibe to it. Alvira and Vladimir spent their honeymoon in Goa, and ofcouse wanted to get some sweet pictures to remember. It was easy to shoot them,  we started clicking early at the morning to get soft, warm light. Nina from  incorporated Indian and Western elements in the setup, to give the feel of a  lazy beautiful morning in a middle of nowhere…

By the time i got to shoot Raj and Bhavita’s wedding, Goa has become kind of home for me. Should I say, I am used to beach photography as no one?  This one is a classic western wedding, where white dress had been plays with waves, and pink evening sky kissed water…and where Raj kisses his love …

What you wanted to know about me: my interview for Shaadiography

Well, again a bit about me…:) People keep asking me: how I came to India, why I love the country, how I managed to come here and bring my Dream to become true.. So now I have pleasure to present my  interview what I gave exclusively for “Shaadiography” and represent here… Enjoy reading 🙂

 my interview for Shaadiography

Dear Katia, we at Shaadiography really like your work and the fresh perspective that you bring to Wedding Photography. Tell us about yourself and your journey until now.

Thank you very much 🙂 Well, we have to travel 20 years back where my story began. I was brought up watching my Dad work as a Photographer, not all his life but it took few years of him to go really deep into. It was my first encounter with Photography. What I really learnt from him was to be brave and fight for your dream. Not to care too much about inhibitions and people who are trying to restrict you.

We can see that you love being in India. What made you move to India?
When I reached the age of 16 I became kind of a “spiritual” person. At least I became a Vegetarian (continue to be one) and came to know about Krishnamurti and other teachers. Fanaticism is big part of my nature, this way I got to know about India and my interest turned to Anthropology. That time our family could not afford travel so my dedication to my new passion made me collect every book I could find on India and I started reading a lot about this lovely country.

Marwari destination wedding in Pushkar

What do you know about magic? I gonna tell you – magic hides among ordinary small things. Be keen, listen gentle steps, and you will catch it on tail!

This is exactly what I felt on Shreeya and Sharad’s wedding – as a Katia in Wonderland! No, I have not seen white rabbit always running late, but I bet there was a Queen! And that day she gonna had her “dream of the life party” – Destination Wedding in Pushkar!! Her kingdom lies between Arawalli hills, her bedroom settled in white marble palace, encrusted with green garden and cyan water pool. All her women in bright colorful outfit as exotic birds gathered around her, but she was calm and confident about her beauty. It was celebration of colors, perfectly mixed with white palace and blue shiny sky. Have a look on another stunning day wedding in Rajasthan.

“WHO YOU ARE?” or 21 odds about me

IMG_4296 копия

Today I got an anonymous msg, asking me to answer only one question: “WHO YOU ARE?”

That’s nice, dude! I would love to answer your question once I will get some idea about it!! Hmm.. but all day long…I kept myself busy to figure out the answer somehow…

If someone will ask you same question (or, who knows, one day you will ask yourself), will you put down

all that typical job searcher stuffs like profession/nationality/gender? And what if one day you will decide to change your gender? Will you stay same person as before?

The trick is you will never really realize that now you are 840 breaths older than you was an hour ago.

I found myself confused. At the same time there is always other side of the coin. Like, as I believe, my “likes” and “dids” dropped me right where I am now, and todays attraction will lead me to the bright, fascinating tomorrow (Hello, Karma!)

Well, what we have for now.  Continue reading

Rishabh and Sakshi’s Jain wedding in Jaipur

Sakshi and Rishabh were, what you may call “exactly my clients”: simple in behaviour though creative by nature. They were looking for photographer in Jaipur, and once we met, we  agreed to shoot right a month before the wedding. Both guys are from this fascinating place (what became almost my home since the time), so our tripled creativity was put to explore beauty of “pink city”. I headed from Delhi to Jaipur late night and there we had 2 full days for our imagination to get blew away. On first day, we put all efforts to set right plan to shoot according to sun, place and outfits, moving here and there all around, arranging dresses, elephant and guitar… (see some more pre wedding shoots in Jaipur )We have so much to say from these pictures! All what those guys loved to do, all what they felt needed to be frozen for generations (nothing less than that!)… So,here we are. I am sure you will enjoy to see these pics all what we got, as same as we do!

Anyway, I am here to tell you something more exciting : ‘The wedding story’,which crowns lingering love of two college mates. They both are Marwaris, but Sakshi from Jain family, so we got cutest ‘day wedding’ with all that beautiful natural light and magic of pink mixed with golden. She chose to wear traditional Rajputana poshak of pink colour with soft green “kair” design. I absolutely loved it! It was accompanied with my favourite rakhdi (that circular typical rajputi tika).
